Trigger Point Therapy

Travell and Simons, the pioneers of trigger point work define them as “highly irritable localized spots of exquisite tenderness in a nodule in a palpable taut band of muscle tissue.” This basically means that when pushed down upon, trigger points hurt. When a trigger point is activated clients are likely to pull away. This is called “the jump sign”.

Trigger points are much like localized muscle spasms, and cause the majority of muscle pain in the clients we see. Trigger Point Therapy is a technique used to soften and removed these hard nodules of tissue and bring the affected muscle back to proper working order.

Our therapists all have extensive training with Trigger Point Therapy and will likely implement this technique during every type of massage given, be it relaxation or clinical work. In order to relax a muscle it must be brought to a state of rest, and Trigger Point Therapy does just that.
