Myofascial Release
by Wendy Johnson, LMT, CMT, SMT, NCBTMB
According to Wikipedia . . . “Fascia is an uninterrupted, three-dimensional web of tissue that extends from head to toe, from front to back, from interior to exterior. It is responsible for maintaining structural integrity; for providing support and protection; and acts as a shock absorber. Fascia has an essential role in hemodynamic and biochemical processes, and provides the matrix that allows for intercellular communication. Fascia functions as the body’s first line of defense against pathogenic agents and infections. After injury, it is the fascia that creates an environment for tissue repair. [1]”
Myofascial Release is a massage therapy modality use to release restrictions in the fascia of the body, aiding in circulation and postural integrity.
When fascia is restricted, posture is affected as fascia helps hold the bones in alignment. By releasing restrictions we help the body begin the process of realigning itself. Myofascial techniques used to do this are:
1. C-Stoke
2. S-Stroke
3. Skin Rolling
4. Pin & Stretch
The results of just one myofascial massage therapy treatment are dramatic but temporary. Continued treatments that train the body to stay in proper alignment are needed. We recommend a package of 10 sessions for lasting results.
Myofascial Release Massage Therapy is great for:
- Poor Posture
- Tight Muscles
- Increased Flexibility
- Increased Circulation
