Piriformis Syndrome

Piriformis syndrome is the compression of the sciatic nerve by the piriformis muscle. Symptoms include but are not limited to:

  • Typically on one side of the body
  • Pain in the posterior thigh, projecting to the calf and the sole of the foot.
  • Numbness in the foot
  • Inner thigh pain
  • Buttock pain with possible gluteal atrophy
  • Pain often decreases with external rotation of the hip
