Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is a condition that results from the compression of the median nerve as it passes through the carpal tunnel at the wrist. This results in numbness and tingling in the median distribution – that is, the lateral three and one-half fingers. Symptoms also include but are not limited to:
- Pain with wrist activity
- In later stages, pain in wrist, hand, forearm, elbow and rarely the shoulder
- Swelling may be present
- Atrophy of the thenar muscles of the palm (padding just below the thumb)
